If you did not get a chance to see the live stream video from the first meeting- click the link below to watch it.  Senator Millar clearly states Georgia is late to the game!  He states that only 1 out of 3 students read proficiently by 3rd grade in the state of Georgia!  Despite legislative efforts to mandate reading by 3rd grade!  He states that we are the only state in the Southeast doing nothing for Dyslexia!  I think he is serious about change for Dyslexics!

Senate Study Committee Meeting Aug. 17th at 10Am

As the Study Committee prepares for its second meeting on Sept. 14th, we would like to ask supporters to take the time to email the three Senators on the committee to let them know why this an important issue to you.  Watch the video and give them your feedback re: the direction of the committee- be thoughtful and KIND in your responses to these Senators- they have the power to make or break us this session!

The Senators are Chairman Fran Millar (fran.millar@senate.ga.gov), Senator Gloria Butler (gloria.butler@senate.ga.gov), and Senator Matt Brass (matt.brass@senate.ga.gov).

Please also EMAIL YOUR SENATORS let them know you are following the Senate Study Committee On Dyslexia and that you hope they are too- and that you are hopeful they will support our efforts in ensuring better outcomes for Dyslexic students in the public school systems!

Here is the agenda for this week's Senate Study Panel, September 14th at 10 am in room 307 of the Coverdell Legislative Building If you can, please consider attending the meeting in person as well. There will be time for public comment. If you cannot attend, you can livestream the meeting.

We appreciate the speakers for their time and commitment to this effort; Dr. Leslie Stuart, Dr. Caitlin Dooley and Dr. Jennifer Lindstrom.  They did a great job painting a picture of what Dyslexia is, what it looks like in the public school system and the issues around lack of knowledge about Dyslexia and the need for teacher training.  Thank you to everyone who has been following, commenting and supporting our efforts- we are hopeful!

Sincerely,

"Two Kinds of Brains"

with CoachRudy Rodriguez

"Two Kinds of Brains"

We commonly refer these days to the ADD/ADHD brain and the neurotypical non-ADD/ADHD brain these days. The two types of brains are distinct and operate differently in many ways. This seminar will explain the distinction between the 'Convergent' and the 'Divergent' types of brains and their relationship to executive function.

This seminar will explore why we operate so differently in the world and why certain institutions, organizations, and corporations don't fit our brain type. I will also discuss why we excel in certain skills and fields of employment. This seminar will also help your significant other to understand who you are and why you operate so differently in the home and the world.  I will introduce you to a simple design that will bring the pieces of our complex puzzle together. I will also refer to Thom Hartman's concept of Hunters vs. Farmers.

I guarantee you'll, and your significant other will enjoy this presentation.

Learning Objectives:

  • As a result of this activity, the participant will have a clear understanding of the distinctions between the Convergent vs. the Divergent type brains.

  • As a result of this activity, the participant will be prepared to explain the distinct brain types and their relationship to executive function.

  • As a result of this activity, the participant and their significant others will have tools for a different discussion about their brain differences in the home and the world.
